Our Visit to Glenmore Mansion, Jefferson City, TN

Glenmore mansion in Jefferson City TN, A beautiful Victorian home completed in 1869. Legend has it that the number of windows one can count from the outside does not equal the number of windows inside the mansion.
Another legend, perhaps an urban legend, also speaks of a mysterious light that randomly appears in the attic. There have been reports of a woman seen standing in one of the windows late at night. Could it be one of the 2 sisters who were great granddaughters of the builder John Roper Branner? The 2 sisters faithfully tended to the resting place of many of their ancestors until their own death. The graves are in the Branner Family Cemetery which once was a part of the property, and is now its own historic site. The cemetery didn’t escape the Civil War. The Battle of Mossy Creek was fought in and around it. Both men of Union and Confederate rest side by side. There are at least 150 unmarked graves in the cemetery.
Glenmore Manion is rich with history, it was used as the Branner Institute (a boarding and day school for young ladies) from probably 1876-1879. It is now a museum with regular business hours. We went on a day the museum was suppose to be open, but the attendant had left for the day. Though we didn’t go inside, we fell in the love with the outside of this home, and we also captured a photo of the attic with a light on, and of the same attic window from various angles, with no lights on. Is there a timer on a light in this room? Do the current owners use this light to detract vandals and thieves? Or do they play into the legend of a haunting?
In a couple of our photographs of the same attic window there is a semi transparent shape, as well as a strange light anomaly. Is it simply a foggy window pane, dirty windows… or could it be something more?
We will have to return and actually get inside to determine much of what has been left unexplained. This home has the potential to be haunted. We are willing to find out.
