Paranormal Research, Haunted Places, Ghost Stories in Tennessee
The remains of Chief Oconostota were discovered before Tellico Lake flooded Chota and Tanasi in 1979. UT archaeologists conducted extensive excavations; the more noteworthy discoveries were the remains of the great townhouse and its hearth, along with the grave of the great warrior who died in 1783.The Sequoyah Birthplace Museum and Chota Memorial site is a great place to pay respects to the many Indians who lived and died in the Lower Little Tennessee River Valley. A couple of our members have frequently sensed a presence of someone or something when visiting the memorial site .
During our visit to this area we had a few notable experiences that might suggest this site is indeed sacred and blessed by many spirits. Every member of our group smelled a horse and then leather at one point as we walked around the Sequoyah Birthplace grounds. There were no horses to be seen anywhere during our visit. We also captured several multi colored orbs in photographs. Despite the big debate about orbs, the one I find most compelling is the bright blue orb that was spotted before the picture was taken, and was in fact the reason the photo was taken as it moved in front of my son. In the photo the sphere appears to be in motion and there is an eerie distortion, or blur across his head and face, the rest of the picture is in focus. Later, at the Chota Memorial site we experienced sudden temperature fluctuations (it was approx 56-60 degrees that day and evening.) We felt a cold draft pass by and watched the temperature drop to 22 degrees. This is lakeside, so maybe it was the wind coming off of the water, but, in the center of the stone columns two of us felt a sudden heat radiate from the ground and warm our feet, the experience only lasted a moment. Granted, any one of these episodes could be explained and rationalized, but all together it makes me wonder.
I am convinced we captured an EVP right in front of Chief Oconostota’s head stone. To me, it sounds like an older male grunting one word, which I think sounds similar to “cave”. I have included that clip in our video and made a separate vid for that possible EVP. Also note that as the night approached, some members of the group thought they heard something, or someone speak nearby, and later the 2 members compared stories and both heard a male either say “no” or “go”. It is a beautiful place to visit, with a strong spiritual atmosphere.
Look at the video, and share our experience with the Indian spirits of Tanasi and Chota. Recognized "capitals" of the Cherokee Nation, where Cherokees from all over gathered for important national councils and religious events. Many pay their respects by visiting and leaving sacred offerings at the memorial site. Researching haunted and spiritual locations in the Southeast.
